Sertorian War

80–72 BCE · 1st century BCE

The Sertorian War was a Roman civil war fought in Hispania from 80 to 72 BCE between Quintus Sertorius, a supporter of the Marian party, and the government in Rome established by Sulla. Backed by Lusitanians and Celtiberians, Sertorius held off Metellus Pius and Pompey for years. He was murdered by his officer Perperna in 73 or 72 BCE, and Pompey then ended the revolt.
