Shamash-resha-usur

8th century BCE · 8th century BCE

Shamash-resha-usur was a governor of Suhu and Mari on the middle Euphrates in the first half of the 8th century BCE, nominally subject to Babylon. His Akkadian inscriptions describe canal building and fighting off raiders, and one stela records that he brought honeybees from the mountains of the Habha people and learned to make honey and wax, the earliest known account of beekeeping in Mesopotamia. His son Ninurta-kudurri-usur succeeded him.
