Shattiwaza treaty

c. 1330 BCE · 14th century BCE

The Shattiwaza treaty was a treaty concluded c. 1330 BCE between the Hittite king Suppiluliuma I and Shattiwaza of Mitanni. It formalised Mitanni's status under Hittite suzerainty while preserving nominal internal autonomy. Accounts of the Mitanni Empire cite it as an example of the kingdom's legal and diplomatic practices.
