Sherbro Island
Sherbro Island is an island off the southern coast of Sierra Leone. In 1820 the American Colonization Society landed its first settlers of free African Americans there, but disease killed many of them, and the survivors moved in 1821–1822 to Cape Mesurado, where the colony that became Liberia was founded.
