Shibam Kawkaban
Shibam Kawkaban is a pair of towns in the highlands north-west of Sanaa, Yemen: Shibam at the foot of a mountain and the fortress town of Kawkaban on the cliff above it. In the 9th century Shibam was the base of the Yufirid dynasty, which seized it around 847 and soon took Sanaa. The towns are known for their traditional stone architecture.
