Shkumbin
The Shkumbin is a river in central Albania, about 180 kilometres long, flowing west past Elbasan to the Adriatic. In Roman times the Via Egnatia followed its valley, making it the main route from the Adriatic coast into the Balkans. The river is traditionally taken as the boundary between the two main Albanian dialects, Gheg in the north and Tosk in the south.
