Shō Shin

1465–1527 · 16th century · Also known as Sho Shin

Shō Shin was king of Ryukyu from 1477 to 1527, the third ruler of the Second Shō dynasty. He centralised the kingdom by bringing the local aji lords to live at the capital Shuri, organised a hierarchy of priestesses under a royal high priestess, and brought the Yaeyama Islands under control in 1500. His reign is regarded as Ryukyu's golden age.
