Shō Toku

1441–1469 · 15th century · Also known as Sho Toku

Shō Toku was the last king of the First Shō dynasty of Ryukyu, reigning from 1461 to 1469. He sent a military expedition that conquered the island of Kikai in 1466. His harsh rule made him unpopular, and after his death in 1469 the court chose the treasurer Kanemaru as king, who founded the Second Shō dynasty as Shō En.
