Shobak Castle
Shobak Castle is a crusader fortress in southern Jordan, built in 1115 by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem on a hill at Shobak and named Montréal, the 'royal mountain'. It was the first stronghold of the lordship of Oultrejordain, guarding the routes between Damascus, Egypt and the Hejaz. It surrendered to Saladin in 1189 after a long siege and was later rebuilt by the Mamluks.
