Shwezigon Pagoda

1102 · 12th century

The Shwezigon Pagoda is a gilded Buddhist stupa at Nyaung-U near Bagan in Myanmar, begun by King Anawrahta of Pagan and completed by Kyansittha around 1102. It is said to enshrine relics of the Buddha, and its bell-shaped form became the model for many later Burmese stupas. It remains an important place of pilgrimage.
