Siegerland
The Siegerland is a hilly region around the upper Sieg river in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia, centred on Siegen. Rich in iron ore, it was one of Germany's oldest mining and iron-working areas, worked from Celtic times until the 1960s. Politically it belonged largely to the counts of Nassau, later the principality of Nassau-Siegen.
