Siete Partidas

c. 1256–1265 · 13th century

The Siete Partidas, or Seven-Part Code, is a law code compiled in Castile under Alfonso X, drawing on Roman and canon law. It covered government, the church, family, property and crime, but gained force of law only through the Ordinance of Alcalá of 1348. It remained a foundation of law in Spain and its American empire, and was cited in Louisiana into the 19th century.
