Sigehard of Aquileia

d. 1077 · 11th century

Sigehard was Patriarch of Aquileia from 1068 to 1077. During the Investiture Controversy he supported Emperor Henry IV, who in 1077 rewarded him with the county of Friuli, followed soon after by Istria and Carniola. These grants laid the foundation of the patriarchs' temporal state, the Patria del Friuli. He died later that same year.
