Spiš
Spiš, Hungarian Szepes and German Zips, is a historical region of north-eastern Slovakia below the High Tatras. Settled by many German colonists from the thirteenth century, it formed a county of the Kingdom of Hungary, and in 1412 King Sigismund pledged thirteen of its towns to Poland, which held them until 1769. Spiš Castle, one of the largest castle sites in Central Europe, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
