State of East Indonesia
The State of East Indonesia was a federal state created by the Dutch in December 1946 at the Denpasar Conference, covering Sulawesi, the Lesser Sunda Islands and the Moluccas, with its capital at Makassar. It became a member of the United States of Indonesia in December 1949, but popular pressure for a unitary republic grew, and it was dissolved into the Republic of Indonesia in 1950.
