Stefan Dragutin

c. 1244–1316 · 13th century

Stefan Dragutin was king of Serbia from 1276 to 1282, when a riding accident led him to hand power to his brother Stefan Milutin. Married to a Hungarian princess, he received the Banate of Mačva and Belgrade from the Hungarian crown in 1284 and ruled the northern lands as a separate realm, sometimes called the Kingdom of Syrmia, until his death.
