Steinhausen Pilgrimage Church

1728–1733 · 18th century · Also known as Wallfahrtskirche Steinhausen

The pilgrimage church at Steinhausen, near Bad Schussenried in upper Swabia, was built from 1728 to 1733 by Dominikus Zimmermann for the abbey of Schussenried, with frescoes by his brother Johann Baptist Zimmermann. Its oval plan and light-filled interior make it one of the first major works of the rococo in Germany, and it is often called the most beautiful village church in the world.
