Supplementary Fundamental Law
The Supplementary Fundamental Law was the second part of the Persian Constitution, ratified in October 1907 by Mohammad Ali Shah. Modelled partly on the Belgian constitution, it set out civil rights, equality before the law and the separation of powers, and made Twelver Shi'ism the state religion, with a committee of senior clerics to check that laws conformed to Islam. It remained in force, at least formally, until 1979.
