Suvarnadvipa
Suvarnadvipa, Sanskrit for 'island of gold', was the Indian name for a land in maritime Southeast Asia, usually identified with Sumatra or more broadly with the Malay Peninsula and archipelago. In Pala inscriptions it denotes the realm of the Shailendra king Balaputradeva, and the Buddhist teacher Atisha studied there for twelve years before returning to India.
