Suvarnagiri

Suvarnagiri, 'golden mountain', was a city of the Maurya Empire in southern India, named in Ashoka's minor rock edicts as the seat of a prince who governed the southern province. Many scholars identify it with Kanakagiri in Karnataka, near the gold-bearing country around Maski where Ashokan edicts have been found. It was one of the four provincial capitals of the empire.
