Tabula Rogeriana

1154 · 12th century · Also known as Book of Roger, Kitab Rujar

The Tabula Rogeriana, or Book of Roger, is the great work of geography that Muhammad al-Idrisi completed in 1154 for Roger II of Sicily. Written in Arabic and drawing on earlier geographers and travellers' reports gathered at the Palermo court, it describes the known world from the Atlantic to China with a world map divided into seventy sectional maps. It remained one of the most accurate world maps for centuries.
