Tanzania People's Defence Force
The Tanzania People's Defence Force is the armed forces of Tanzania, created in 1964 after the mutiny of the Tanganyika Rifles to replace the old colonial-style army with a force loyal to the ruling party. It supported liberation movements in southern Africa, defeated Idi Amin's Uganda in the war of 1978 and 1979, and has served in United Nations peacekeeping, notably in eastern Congo.
