Taqwim al-Buldan

1321 · 14th century

Taqwim al-Buldan, 'A Sketch of the Countries', is a geographical work completed in 1321 by Abu al-Fida, the Ayyubid prince of Hama. Arranged in tables by region, it gives the longitude, latitude and climate zone of towns, with descriptions drawn from earlier geographers and the author's own observations. It was later translated into Latin and French and widely used by European scholars.
