Theriso revolt
The Theriso revolt was an uprising in the Cretan State in 1905, led by Eleftherios Venizelos from the village of Theriso near Chania. The rebels demanded union with Greece and opposed the autocratic rule of the high commissioner, Prince George of Greece. The revolt led to Prince George's resignation in 1906 and raised Venizelos to political prominence.
