Third Anglo-Burmese War

1885 · 19th century

The Third Anglo-Burmese War was a short campaign in November 1885 in which British forces advanced up the Irrawaddy and took Mandalay, deposing King Thibaw, the last king of the Konbaung dynasty. Upper Burma was annexed on 1 January 1886, completing British rule over the whole country, though guerrilla resistance continued for several years.
