Third Anglo-Mysore War

1790–1792 · 18th century

The Third Anglo-Mysore War (1790–1792) was provoked by Tipu Sultan's attack on the lines of Travancore, an ally of the British East India Company, in 1789. Governor-General Lord Cornwallis, allied with the Marathas and the Nizam of Hyderabad, took Bangalore in 1791 and besieged Srirangapatna. In the Treaty of Seringapatam of 1792 Tipu ceded about half of his territory and paid a heavy indemnity.
