8th–9th century · 9th century · Also known as Tirumangai Alvar

Thirumangai Alvar was a Tamil poet-saint devoted to Vishnu, traditionally the last of the twelve Alvars, who lived in the eighth or ninth century. Said to have been a local chieftain before his conversion, he visited many Vishnu temples and contributed more hymns than any other Alvar to the Nalayira Divya Prabandham, including verses on the temples of Kanchipuram and Mamallapuram.
