Thomas Scott (Orangeman)

c. 1842–1870 · 19th century

Thomas Scott was an Irish-born Protestant labourer and member of the Orange Order who opposed Louis Riel's provisional government at Red River. Captured during an armed counter-movement, he was tried by a Métis tribunal and executed by firing squad on 4 March 1870. His death enraged Protestant Ontario and turned Riel into a hunted man.
