Toltén River
The Toltén River flows from Lake Villarrica about 120 kilometres west to the Pacific Ocean in the Araucanía region of southern Chile. In colonial times the lands between the Biobío and the Toltén formed the core of the independent Mapuche territory. The Spanish town of Villarrica, near its source, was destroyed in the great Mapuche rising of 1598–1604.
