Toluca Valley
The Toluca Valley is a high basin in the State of Mexico, west of the Valley of Mexico, drained by the upper Lerma river and centred on the city of Toluca. Before the Spanish conquest it was home to Matlatzinca, Otomi and Mazahua peoples. It was conquered in the 1470s by the Aztec Triple Alliance under Axayacatl, and lands there were assigned to Tlacopan and its Tepanec allies.
