Tomsk

Tomsk is a city on the Tom River in western Siberia, founded as a fortress in 1604 by order of Tsar Boris Godunov. It grew as a trading and administrative centre on the route across Siberia and became known as the 'Siberian Athens' after Tomsk University, the first in Siberia, opened in 1888.
