Toprak-Kala
Toprak-Kala is an ancient fortified city in Karakalpakstan, north-western Uzbekistan, that served as a royal seat of the kings of Khwarazm in the 2nd and 3rd centuries CE. Excavated by Soviet archaeologists under Sergei Tolstov, its high palace contained halls with wall paintings and clay sculptures and an archive of documents in the Khwarazmian language, written in a script derived from Aramaic.
