Topkapı Palace
Topkapı Palace in Istanbul was the main residence and administrative centre of the Ottoman sultans for about four centuries. Begun by Mehmed II after the conquest of Constantinople, it occupies the tip of the historic peninsula, on the site of the acropolis of ancient Byzantium. The court moved to Dolmabahçe Palace in 1856, and Topkapı became a museum in 1924.
