Megabazus

late 6th century BCE · 6th century BCE

Megabazus was a Persian general of Darius I in the late 6th century BCE. Left in Europe after Darius's Scythian campaign, he conquered Perinthus, much of Thrace and the Paeonians, and secured the submission of Macedon. Herodotus records his remark that the founders of Chalcedon must have been blind to settle there when the far better site of Byzantium lay opposite.
