Alcibiades

c. 450–404 BCE · 5th century BCE

Alcibiades was an Athenian statesman and general and an associate of Socrates. He promoted the Sicilian Expedition of 415 BCE, deserted to Sparta when accused of sacrilege, and later returned to lead the Athenian fleet to victories such as Cyzicus in 410 BCE. Exiled again after the defeat at Notium, he was murdered in Phrygia.
