Byzas
Byzas was the legendary founder of Byzantium, the Greek city on the Bosporus that later became Constantinople and Istanbul. According to tradition he led settlers from Megara in the 7th century BCE, after the Delphic oracle told them to settle opposite the 'land of the blind', meaning the colonists of Chalcedon, who had overlooked the better site. The city's name was said to derive from his.
