Torrens title
Torrens title is a system of land registration in which the state keeps a central register of land ownership and guarantees the title of the registered owner. It was introduced in South Australia in 1858 by Robert Torrens, replacing the complex old system of tracing chains of title deeds. It has since been adopted in all Australian states, New Zealand and many other countries.
