Travancore–Dutch War

1739–1753 · 18th century

The Travancore–Dutch War was fought between the Dutch East India Company and the kingdom of Travancore under Marthanda Varma on the Malabar Coast of south-west India. Travancore defeated a Dutch force at the Battle of Colachel in 1741, one of the first defeats of a European army by an Indian state. The Treaty of Mavelikkara of 1753 ended Dutch political ambitions in Kerala.
