Treaty of Belgrade

1739 · 18th century · Part of the Austro-Russian–Turkish War (1735–1739)

The Treaty of Belgrade, signed in September 1739, ended the war of 1735–1739 in which Austria and Russia fought the Ottoman Empire. After a badly managed campaign, Austria returned Belgrade, northern Serbia and Oltenia, which it had gained at Passarowitz in 1718. In a parallel settlement Russia kept Azov but had to demolish its fortifications and keep no fleet on the Black Sea, and Kabarda was declared a neutral barrier.
