Treaty of Hartford (1638)

1638 · 17th century · Also known as Tripartite Treaty · Part of the Pequot War

The Treaty of Hartford was signed in September 1638 by the Connecticut colony and the Mohegan and Narragansett sachems after the Pequot War. It declared the Pequot nation dissolved, divided the surviving captives between the Mohegan and the Narragansett, and forbade the use of the Pequot name. It confirmed English control of the Pequot lands of south-eastern Connecticut.
