Treaty of Middle Plantation

1677 · 17th century

The Treaty of Middle Plantation of 1677 was concluded between the English Crown and Native peoples of Virginia, among them the Pamunkey under Cockacoeske, after the violence of Bacon's Rebellion. It made the tribes subjects of the Crown with guaranteed land rights and laid the basis for reservations that still exist. It was signed at Middle Plantation, later Williamsburg.
