Treaty of Nonsuch

1585 · 16th century · Part of the Dutch Revolt

The Treaty of Nonsuch was signed on 10 August 1585 at Nonsuch Palace in Surrey between Elizabeth I of England and the Dutch rebels. Elizabeth agreed to send several thousand soldiers under the Earl of Leicester and received the towns of Brielle and Flushing as security for her costs. The treaty brought England openly into the war with Spain and helped provoke the Spanish Armada of 1588.
