Treaty of Nöteborg

1323 · 14th century · Also known as Treaty of Orekhovets · Part of the Swedish–Novgorodian Wars

The Treaty of Nöteborg was a peace concluded in 1323 at the fortress of Nöteborg (Orekhovets) at the source of the Neva between Sweden and the Novgorod Republic. It drew the first agreed border across Karelia, leaving the western part with Sweden and the east with Novgorod. The line shaped the later divide between Lutheran Finland and Orthodox Russia.
