Swedish–Novgorodian Wars

12th–14th century · 12th century

The Swedish–Novgorodian Wars were a series of conflicts between Sweden and the Novgorod Republic over Finland, Karelia and the trade routes of the Gulf of Finland and the Neva. Swedish expeditions and the building of Vyborg in 1293 and Landskrona in 1300 met Novgorodian counter-attacks. The Treaty of Nöteborg of 1323 set the first border between them, though fighting continued intermittently.
