Swedish–Norwegian War

1814 · 19th century

The Swedish–Norwegian War was a short war in July and August 1814 between Sweden and Norway, which had declared independence after the Treaty of Kiel transferred it from Denmark to Sweden. Swedish forces under Crown Prince Charles John (Bernadotte) quickly gained the upper hand, and the Convention of Moss ended the fighting. Norway kept its new constitution but entered a personal union with Sweden that lasted until 1905.
