Treaty of Tsarskoye Selo (1773)
The Treaty of Tsarskoye Selo of 1773 settled the long dispute between Denmark and Russia over the Gottorp lands in Schleswig-Holstein. Grand Duke Paul of Russia, heir of the Holstein-Gottorp dukes, gave up his share of Holstein to Denmark in exchange for the counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst. Paul passed these to his relative Frederick Augustus of the Gottorp line, for whom Oldenburg was raised to a duchy in 1774.
