Tupi
Tupi is an indigenous language of Brazil, spoken by the Tupi peoples of the Atlantic coast at the time of Portuguese colonisation. A form of it served as a widely used lingua franca in colonial Brazil, and many Brazilian place names derive from it. Accounts of the Brazilian Empire note that Emperor Pedro II translated works from Tupi, among other languages, into Portuguese.
