Tycho Brahe

1546–1601 · 16th century

Tycho Brahe was a Danish nobleman and astronomer. His observation of a new star in 1572 challenged the belief that the heavens were unchangeable. From his observatory of Uraniborg on Ven, granted by Frederick II, he made the most precise naked-eye measurements of his time. In 1599 he became imperial mathematician to Rudolf II in Prague, where his data passed to Johannes Kepler.
