Ulric Manfred II

c. 992–1034 · 11th century · Also known as Olderico Manfredi II

Ulric Manfred II was margrave of Turin from about 1000 until his death in 1034, of the Arduinici family. He controlled the Alpine routes over the Mont Cenis and Mont Genèvre passes, extended the march across much of western Piedmont and founded monasteries, including San Giusto at Susa. His daughter Adelaide of Susa inherited his lands and, through her marriage to Otto of Savoy, brought them to the House of Savoy.
