Umar ibn Hafsun

c. 850–917 · 9th century

Umar ibn Hafsun was a muwallad rebel who led a long revolt against the Umayyad Emirate of Córdoba from his mountain fortress of Bobastro in southern al-Andalus. He drew support from converts and Christians, allied with other rebels such as the lords of Seville, and is said to have become Christian himself. His sons held out until Abd al-Rahman III took Bobastro in 928.
